The Superman page Grant Morrison wishes he wrote

Okay, maybe All-Star Superman #4 is the best Superman comic to be published in nearly twenty years...but well before that, Jimmy and his best pal were exploring tripped-out psychedelic landscapes alongside the Hairies and the Newsboy Legion, courtesy of Jack Kirby:

(From Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #137, one of my favorite comics of all time.)

  1. Are you sure you're not thinking of the time Jimmy became the Hulk? Or a caveman? Or Professor Richard Impossible? Or... um, well...

  2. I found a couple of collections of these at a local shop. While it's weird to see the infamous Don Rickles cover made pulpflesh, a cool thing about these is how psychedelic and other mindbending visions are represented using photographic backgrounds. That is just about the most awesome thing I've seen in five weeks.

  3. haha, Jimmy got into homo-disastrous trouble back then, and now.

Okay, I promise to be serious now.

  4. No worries, Peter -- apparently Jimmy Olsen's gay side has been around a while.

And don't get me started on the March 1963 story where he dressed up as "Leslie Lowe, Girl Reporter"...
